January 23rd meeting cancelled.

Due to the facilities not being available on January 23rd, I will be cancelling the meeting for that date.
The one after will be on February 27, and will be on co-ops, as there has been some request for that. So if you have any questions or things you would like dealt with in that meeting, then feel free to let me know and I will try and address them. The info will not just be from me, but also from other sources that I have gleaned from.
I hope to see a lot of you there.
Blessings. Cynthia

Wishing you a blessed new year.

I have no posts since September, so I thought I really should post something. I hope you all had a blessed Christmas season, as we celebrated the birth of our Lord and Saviour, who came down from heaven to be incarnate man, so He could then suffer and die on the cross for all of our sins. I wish you the Lord's blessing on your upcoming year as you seek to raise your children in the ways of the Lord, that you and they might be lights reflecting God power and glory to the world around. In line of that thought, take some time to read 1 Kings 10:1-9, and note how Solomon shone that glory of the Lord in his kingdom to the world around. He didn't run around to the nations and giving them the gospel (not that that is wrong), but rather lived it in word and deed making a great impact on the nation of Israel and the world around. Word of this unique nation, which served the living God (not dumb images) and followed a unique set of laws, that allowed the worship of only one God which resulted in wisdom and justice and righteousness. The Queen of Sheba came to seek out this king as the light of the Lord shone forth from his kingdom. Sometimes we busy ourselves with this that and the other thing, when we really should pay more attention to how we are actually living. May we too shine to the world around that they might see something different and desirable about our lives and how we live, speak and act, how we train our children up, that they too might come and ask us, just as the queen of Sheba came to Solomon. We can only do this if we rely totalling on our God.
Blessings to you all.

CHEN Meeting September 26, 2011

Just a quick reminder that our first meeting is tomorrow. Unfortunately Louise House will not be able to be there due to a suddend death of her niece just this past Friday. So hold her and her loved ones up in prayer.

Since she is not able to speak I will be speaking on College Plus, which is something my 15 year old daughter is doing. For those of you who are already contemplating what to do when you children get to highschool age even though they are not there just yet, come and hear about this exciting opportunity for you child to start earning college credits towards their degree from home at a fraction of the cost of university and college. We are only just starting out, but I will give you a run down on how it works.
I hope to see lots of you there. You are welcome to bring teens who might be interested in such opportunities.

Meetings will be at Newmarket Gospel Hall, 736 Davis Drive, Newmarket. 7PM.

CHEN Meeting September 26, 2011, 7pm

Just a reminder to everyone that September 26, at 7pm. At the first meeting we will have Louise House from the Learning House speak. She will be speaking about homeschooling, and how wonderful a God-given job it is! Really! She may also speak about our misconceptions, just to keep us grounded. :-) I hope lots of you will come out to the meeting. It will be an opportunity for everyone to see each other, and to be encouraged. It is also an opportunity for you to keep your membership up, by renewing it. It comes at the bargain price of $10, which helps to pay our OCHEC membership as well as giving you a discount to HSLDA, in addition to covering costs involved in running CHEN, such as speakers, facilities, etc.

I would love some suggestions, as usual, as to what people are looking for at the meetings. If you have anything you would like to let others know at the meeting let me know and I will assist in that.

Charlotte Mason Group meetings in Bradford

Dear Friends,
Summer seems to be rushing away quickly so I am forced to think towards the fall. Below are the dates for this year’s Charlotte Mason Group meetings in Bradford. I hope that this year we will avoid so many conflicts with conferences and so on. J Please mark the dates on your calendar now so that they don’t get double booked. I know that I really enjoy the time that we meet as it is so encouraging and building… An essential “Professional Development” time.
September 22
October 27
December 1
January 12
February 16
March 22
May 3
June 7
As well, I will be ordering some copies of “Educating the Whole Hearted Child”. If you haven’t already, please let me know if you would like one. They are only $23.50 each!!! The new edition is at least 50% bigger and the price is $10 less than I got mine for many years ago! Definitely worth investing in.
I know that it is late and that you have probably ordered most of the books that you will need for the fall but if there are any other homeschooling books that you need, please feel free to check with me as I am starting to stock a few more titles and am aiming to start carrying lots of Charlotte Mason friendly titles…. I will likely put in the order for the Educating the Whole Hearted Child books on Tuesday or Wednesday so if you’d like to pick up any other titles (Apologia Science, Mystery of History, Story of the World, Learning Language Arts Through Literature, etc.) at that time, I can at least save you the tax on them as I am still same enough not to have to pass the taxes on.
Blessings,
Cori
P. S. – For planning purposes I have tried to find all of the dates for this year’s local conferences…

Meeting Schedule for the Year and Mentoring Course

Hello Ladies. I am behind on organizing this and I apologize. We have a new location, thanks to a couple of ladies. Thank you Patricia Clapperton and Susan Berrezueta, who's church we can use.
Meetings will be at Newmarket Gospel Hall, 736 Davis Drive, Newmarket. 7PM. (I believe this is beside the Re-Store.)
The meetings will be scheduled as below. They WILL NOT be on the 4th Monday of the month, as I have things I had scheduling conflicts. They will be 5 or 6 weeks apart.
September 26 Louise House from the Learning House
November 7
December 12
January 23
February 27
April 2 or 16 Used Cirriculum Sale
May 28
I would love some suggestions, as usual, as to what people are looking for at the meetings.
I will also take the opportunity to mention the Home Education Mentoring program I would love to run if there is a need for it. It would be on a separate evening, if there is enough response.
This program is for any new home educating family interested in more personal mentoring from an experienced veteran – that’s “experienced” not “expert”.

This program may be for you IF:
- you are brand new this year with young children
- you are on the edge of a decision to home educate but want to know more about practical aspects
- you have been at this for a couple of years but still feel you require more of the basic information to go forward more comfortably
- you have older children recently removed from the public or private school system
- you are a veteran and would like to sit in on a session in order to become a mentor with Cornerstone

This is a detailed mentoring program developed by Vicky Bentley in Virginia based on her years of experience as a home educator and support group member and leader with a group of 300+ member families.

Because of the nature of this program, it will require a couple of commitments. It will require a time commitment of one night a week for approximately 8 weeks for 2 hours per night. It will also require a monetary commitment for the Parent Workbook of $37.

Topics to be covered are:
Beginning the Incredible Journey
Choosing Curriculum
Organizing Your Time
Home Education with Style
Getting Dinner on the Table (The Same Day You Homeschool)
Testing and Evaluation
Teaching Tips
Organizing Your Home
Lessons Learned

You will notice that these topics are not all strictly home educating how-tos but deal with the general flow of your household. I believe that choosing to home educate your children is not about making an education choice. It is truly a lifestyle choice. How you organize (or don't organize) your home and household tasks can and do directly affect your "school" time.
Enjoy what is left of your summer.
